Club Championships 2019

November 14th, 2019

This year’s Club Championships will be at Bellshill on Sunday 24th November.

Please be aware of some important points –

All club swimmers are expected to take part in the Club Championships. If you are unable to attend you MUST let the club desk, Alison or Mike know by 17th November at the latest.

Registration will be from 8:30am until 9:00am. Only registered swimmers will be entered for the competition so it is very important to sign in when you arrive.

At Bellshill swimmers must make their way down the stairs from the gallery to poolside – pool shoes must be worn in order to comply with health and safety regulations.

The Parents & Coaches “Golden Oldies” Trophy will competed for after the main events have concluded. All our more “mature” members are encouraged to take part in this fun event. Swimmers – if you think your parent or carer (or your coach!) has what it takes (to manage to get from one end of the pool to the other!) please ask them to let us know at the break after event 7.

If for whatever reason you have not received an email inviting you to attend please speak to your coach or one of the committee ASAP so that you do not miss out.

PARENTS/CARERS WE NEED YOUR HELP

November 5th, 2019

……….for the 1500m challenge night and club championship day we are looking for as many volunteers to do timekeeping as possible, even if you haven’t done it before. It’s not all work though, at the club championship you have the chance to don your swimming costume in the parents and coaches race. Don’t worry if your pal is doing it or not, just you do it and they will follow – it’s for fun. You don’t want this generation to be the one that finished this great tradition forever!!!! …. bonus points for worst swimming attire!

Scottish Swimming Young Volunteer Programme

October 24th, 2019

Hi all

Scottish Swimming are delighted to announce the launch of the new Young Volunteer Programme which gives our young members a range of opportunities to support and shape our sport.

This year we have several programmes that young people can sign up to but with limited spaces, available to members over the age of 13.

The Programmes available are:

Young Ambassador Programme

This is a great opportunity for 5 young people aged 16-25 to represent the West in a new national forum. These 5 young people will join 15 others from around the country to help give a voice to the young people in our sport. This is a free programme where they will get to attend an amazing residential weekend!

This is a great opportunity to shape the future of our sport and to develop our young people to give them transferable skills for the future.

This Programme is free and has a closing date of 3rd of November 2019 so please can we ask that you push this quickly!

Young Event Co-ordinator Programme

We are looking for young people aged 16-25 who are interested in how events are organised in Swimming, Water Polo, Synchronised Swimming, Open Water and Diving. These young people will have an opportunity to work alongside and be mentored by our experienced members during the events.

This Programme is free and has a closing date of 17th November 2019.

Young Leader Squad

Following on from the success of the last 3 programmes, candidates will look into why participants drop out of aquatics and help empower and motivate the young people themselves to actively help engage their peers and improve retention rates in their own home clubs.

The Programme will target two young captains/ leaders aged 13-17 (1 boy and 1 girl) from each club within the West District. Each of these captains/ leaders will attend a 2 night residential training camp facilitated by Education Through Cashback, SASA West District and Scottish Swimming Staff. If your club would like more than two places, please email your RSDM, Andy or Paul.

This Programme will cost each individual £150 and the closing date is 27 Feb 2020.
